The disagreement between the AFL and Melbourne Stadium Ltd (Etihad Stadium) in Melbourne has finally been resolved, clearing the way for AC/DC to play at the venue in February.
The 18-month disagreement was cleared up this morning with the stadium agreeing to inject a guaranteed $100,000 payment for every home game and $5.5 million injected back into the clubs each year. The stand-off between the clubs and venue meant that the AC/DC shows scheduled for Etihad Stadium next year were under question with the clubs claiming that had full rights to the venue at the time and had not granted permission for the AC/DC shows to go ahead at the stadium.
AC/DC became the innocent victim in the football pissing match with threats from the AFL that they would stop the concerts going ahead at the venue.
“This is a great result for Victorian-based AFL clubs playing home matches at Etihad Stadium and it is recognition of the impact of our clubs and their supporters on the stadium economy,” AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou said.
AC/DC will perform at Etihad Stadium on February 11, 13 and 15, 2010.
