In 1976, Rod Stewart released `The Killing of Georgie Parts 1 and 2’, a tragic tale of a gay boy who was beaten to death. A little known fact is that there was a sequel and we will hear it soon.
Rod’s next album after ‘A Night On The Town’, released in 1977, was ‘Footloose and Fancy Free’. It was rumoured that a sequel did exist but the never-before-heard song is about to be released as part if a new boxed set ‘The Rod Stewart Sessions 1971-1998’.Stewart recorded the track ‘Innocent’ (The Killing of Georgie Part III)’ for ‘Footloose and Fancy Free’ but it never made the final album.
For the new box, producers Andy Zax and Cheryl Pawelski scoured the dungeons of Warner Music and uncovered 63 Stewart outtakes never before released.
The rarities include the demo of ‘Maggie Mae’, alternate versions of ‘Sailing’, ‘Tonight’s The Night’ and ‘You Wear It Well’ and the song ‘Think I’ll Pack My Bags’, later released on a Ron Wood solo album as ‘So Tired’.
Unreleased covers found were Frankie Miller’s ‘When I’m Away From You’, Buddy Holly’s ‘Maybe Baby’ and Bob Dylan’s ‘This Wheels On Fire’.
Rod also recorded a cover of Oasis’ ‘Rocking Chair’ for the 1998 album ‘When We Were The Boys’. He switched it for another Oasis song ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’.
If you think Dave Grohl can put a supergroup together, it is nothing to the one Rod had but did not use in 1992. The album will include Python Lee Jackson’s ‘In A Broken Dream’, sung by Rod on the original single and covered by Rod in the 90s with Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour on guitar and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones on bass.
The Rod Stewart Sessions 1971-1998 will be released on September 29.
