Record Industry legend Ahmet Ertegun is reported to have seriously injured himself at a Rolling Stones concert in New York City.
Ertegun, the founder of Atlantic Records, fell while backstage at the Bill Clinton 60th Birthday Party show at the Beacon Theater in New York a week ago.The 83 year old music legend is reported to have badly injured his head and was placed in an induced coma.
Mick Jagger, who considers Ertegun his mentor, is said to be terribly upset by the accident.
Ahmet and his brother Neshui were the founders of Atlantic Records. While Nesuhi concentrated on producing jazz records for the label, Ahmet developed blues, R&B and rock. He was at the start of the careers of Big Joe Turner, The Drifters and The Rolling Stones.
His luminaries include Otis Redding, Bette Midler, The Bee Gees, Sam and Dave, Roberta Flack, The Spinners, Genesis, Foreigner, Phil Collins, Tori Amos, the Blues Brothers, Stevie Nicks and Percy Sledge, just to name a few.
On film, he was portrayed by Curtis Armstrong in the Oscar winning movie 'Ray'.
Ertegun's condition has stabilized since the accident.
