Warner Music Group (WMG) is the only major label to increase it's market share so far in 2006.
Warner increased in 2006 from 16.65% to 19.3% from 2005 according to Nielsen SoundScan.Current album sales grabbed an 18.46% market share for WMG compared to 14.65% last year and digital tracks for Warner grabbed 20.6% of the market compared to 16.42% for the same time last year.
Sony BMG dropped from 27.78% overall to 26.25% with current releases drooping to 26% from 28.29% and digital sales dropping more than 2 points from 27.76% last year to 25.24% currently.
The biggest drop for current albums came from the Sony side of the company with current albums dropping from a 15.25% market share to 13.14% market share but the BMG side last ground with digital sales falling from 14.35% of the market last year to 12.6% this year.
Warner Music own the two biggest sellers in digital music this year with Daniel Powter's ‘Bad Day' selling 1,552,372 units and Sean Paul's ‘Temperature' doing 1,241,236 units.
