As a kid in a grown up’s body, few things excite me like the prospect of little kiddies rocking out with local musicians and fortunately, that was just the vision Ally Spazzy of local Melbourne punk group The Spazzys had in mind when she started Kiddyrock.
Now over the past two years, it has been exposing little kids to music through programs in Frankston and Carlton, as well as kindergartens and early learning centres throughout Melbourne.“Kiddierock is a brand new project where a load of artists and musicians have come together to create accessibility to alternative music for kids as well as create opportunities for local musicians to continue working in music, in what they love," Kiddierock's Georgie Carpenter told Undercover.
“We’re not going to teach anyone how to play the guitar or how to play a drum, but we are going to expose them to some of the artists that we loved, and help them develop an ear to enjoy music in the way that we do.”
Programs involve musical workshops where the kids get to play with local musicians, including Ally Spazzy (The Spazzys), Shaun Gionis (Trial Kennedy) and Richard Walsh (The Electric Guitars) and will help kids develop a love and understanding of music and the arts and give them a keen ear.
The program is aimed at kids from 3 - 6 years old with workshops costing $17 per session, or $15 when groups of four or more are booked in.
The next sessions take place at:
The Dancehouse
(150 Princes Street, North Carlton)
On Thursdays at 10am & 11am starting 16th July 2009
and
Frankston Arts Centre
(Corner Davey St & Young St, Frankston)
On Tuesdays - 10am and 11am Wednesdays - 10am
Kindergartens and early learning centres can also book the workshops to come to their centre. Details can be found at www.kiddyrock.com.au.
