Popkomm, the annual music conference held in Berlin, Germany, is going to sit out 2009.
“Continuing difficulties within the industry’ has been given as the reason to cancel the event, scheduled for September this year.“A situation that was becoming clear early this year at Midem in Cannes also seems to be affecting Popkomm in Berlin,” Managing Director of Popkomm Dr Ralf Kleinhenz said in a statement.
“Despite positive reactions to the new event location and a satisfactory number of bookings by exhibitors, because of the economic situation we anticipate a considerable decline in trade visitor attendance. Out of responsibility to-wards the exhibitors we have therefore decided to postpone Popkomm for one year,” he announced.
14,000 visitors from 52 countries attended Popkomm 2008. Attendees came from major and independent labels, publishers, as well as companies from music-related sectors such as the concert, movie, television, advertising, gaming and mobile entertainment industries.
Popkomm will return in 2010, Dr. Kleinhenz stated.
