John Farnham will hand the Ted Albert Award to Sony Music Entertainment Chairman and CEO Denis Handlin at the APRA Awards on Tuesday evening.
Denis will receive the accolade for his services to the Australian Music Industry.As well as his work within the industry, Denis has used his position to raise money for the community. In 1999, he founded the Sony Foundation Australia and has raised more than $12 million for charity,
The Sony Foundation Australia has benefited the Children’s Hospital in Westmead, Parkinson’s Syndrome Society and this year did outstanding work for the 2009 Victorian Bushfire appeal.
Denis Handlin is also a Patron of the Youth Off The Streets scholarship program.
“I am truly humbled and honoured by this recognition from APRA. To be recognised by industry peers and in this case particularly from songwriters and music publishers, is very special indeed,” he said in a statement.
“I have the deepest respect and admiration for Ted Albert. He was one of the real founders of the modern Australian music industry and a great champion of songwriters and artists. I first met him when I was a very young MD in the 80s and he has always been a great influence on me.”
The 2009 APRA Awards will be held in Melbourne on Tuesday night, June 23rd.
They will be broadcast on July 5th on MAX.
