Applications for Big Sound music conference in Queensland will close on June 1.
Around 50 acts perform at Big Sound in the evening while the conference takes place through the day.Last year was a big one for The Temper Trap. Since Big Sound, they went on to become one of the buzz bands at SXSW in Austin.
The Boat People also made their way to SXSW after showcasing first at Big Sound. “At BIG SOUND 2007 we had a meeting with influential DJ Nic Harcourt from KCRW in LA,” the band’s manager Rick Chazan explains. “He loved the single Unsettle My Heart and invited the band to do a live set on air the following year. Not long after we picked up a US lawyer, a co-manager, won a CMJ grand prize, played CMJ music marathon, and then SXSW. Without overplaying it at all, this success was a result of one meeting at BIG SOUND a year and a half ago. It is a great conference and I recommend it highly to any bands getting ready for export.”
Big Sound 2009 is on from September 9 to 11.
Van Dyke Parks, Glenn Wheatley and Nic Harcourt are some of the speakers for this year.
