Depeche Mode cancelled their gig in Athens on Tuesday (May 11) when singer David Gahan was suddenly rushed to hospital.
Moments before the show was to begin, the band’s tour manager came on stage to break the news to the 20,000 strong crowd.I apologize on behalf of Dave and Depeche Mode, he said. Dave really wanted to be well enough to perform and apologizes for letting his fans in Athens down. We are sorry. He is genuinely ill and has asked me to pass on his apology to you all.
Gahan was taken to a private clinic suffering from suspected gastroenteritis. It was hoped that the show would be rescheduled for the following day.
Fans paid 100 euros ($AUD178, $US136) for tickets to the show.
