The APRA (Australian Performing Rights Association) Awards will return to Melbourne this year.
For the last 25 years, the APRA Music Awards have recognized the achievements of Australian songwriters, composers and publishers.“For over 25 years, APRA has proudly recognized the achievements of our outstanding songwriters, composers and music publisher members at the annual APRA Music Awards,” said CEO Brett Cottle. “This year we look forward to sharing the occasion with our friends and peers in Melbourne; to once again celebrate breadth and depth of songwriting talent in this country.”
The big award is Song of the Year, voted for by the 30,000 APRA members. Last year, the awards went to Daniel Johns for ‘Straight Lines’.
The night also recognizes legacy with the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services for Australian Music. In the past, this award has been given to Michael Chugg (promoter), Michael McMartin (manager, Hoodoo Gurus), Don Burrows (jazz musician) and Angus and Malcolm Young (AC/DC).
