Paul Kelly will be honored with the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services To Australian Music at the 2011 APRA Music Awards in Sydney next month.
In the past the award has gone to Don Burrows, Michael Chugg, Slim Dustry, Triple J, Bill Armstrong, Angus & Malcolm Young, Roger Davies, Dennis Handlin AM and Jimmy Little.
"Ted Albert was a giant of the Australian music industry and a great champion of Australian music. Each year the APRA Board honours Ted’s memory by conferring an award on someone who has contributed immensely to Australian music. It is difficult to think of an Australian musician or songwriter of the past 30 years who has crafted more distinctly Australian music, with as much universal appeal, as Paul Kelly. Paul embodies every attribute and achievement that the Ted Albert Award seeks to recognise,” said APRA|AMCOS CEO, Brett Cottle in a statement.
Kelly’s career spans more than 30 years. In that time he has developed a reputation and respect as one of Australia’s greatest ever songwriters.
The 2011 APRA Music Awards will be held on June 21.
