Former Monkees guitarist Peter Tolk has announced that he is suffered from a rare form of cancer.
The 67-year old star has been admitted to a hospital in New York to undergo extensive surgery for the cancer known as Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma."It's a bad news, good news situation," he said he a statement to fans, "It's so rare a combination (on the tongue) that there isn't a lot of experience among the medical community about this particular combination. On the other hand, the type of cancer it is, never mind the location, is somewhat well known, and the prognosis, I'm told, is good."
Early tests showed that the cancer had not spread.
Tolk will have a round of radiation treatment to battle the disease.
Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma is a slow growing cancer on the head and neck.
Tolk says he has shows coming up in June with his band Blue Suede Shoes so he has to be better by then.
