Coldplay Viva La Vida was the biggest selling album on the planet last year and AC/DC Black Ice came in second.
IFPI has compiled a global list of album activity during 2008 and the combined results will surprise you.For example, Duffy’s ‘Rockferry’ was the biggest selling album in the UK last year but didn’t have the same impact in the US. It still manager to be the 4th biggest of the year.
Madonna and Guns ‘n Roses were both perceived to have had duds last year, not ‘Hard Candy’ ranked 11 and ‘Chinese Democracy’ ranked 14, ahead of the more popular Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears and Nickelback.
Abba were at both 3 and 37. The Mamma Mia soundtrack was fuelled by one of the biggest movies of the year but it also dragged along the more than a decade Gold album into the Top 50.
