Rock n Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy award winning bass player Donald "Duck" Dunn" died yesterday at the age of 70 whilst on tour in Japan.

Donald "Duck" Dunn, was an important player that contributed to the creation of the dirty Memphis soul sound at Stax Records in the 1960s as part of the legendary group Booker T. and the MGs. He contributed to  classic songs such as "In the Midnight Hour," ''Hold On, I'm Coming" and "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay." Dunn also worked alongside John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's Blues Brothers, Levon Helm, Eric Clapton, Neil Young and Bob Dylan.

Dunn apparently died in his sleep whilst on tour in Tokyo. The sad news was published on the Facebook site of Dunn's  friend and fellow musician Steve Cropper, who was touring with Dunn at the time. Here is his massage "Today I lost my best friend, the World has lost the best guy and bass player to ever live.  Duck Dunn died in his sleep Sunday morning May 13 in Tokyo Japan after finishing 2 shows at the Blue Note Night Club."

Here is Donald "Duck" Dunn and Steve Cropper performing "Green Onions" at The State Theatre in Sydney back in 2008.
