Bruce Springsteen, Mary J. Blige, Ren??e Fleming, Stevie Wonder, Usher, Shakira, Bono and U2, will.i.am, Jon Bon Jovi, Beyonc??, Garth Brooks, John Mellencamp, James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Herbie Hancock and John Legend performed for Barack Obama.The We Are One concert took place on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington today.
"It's a blessing to think the songs I wrote, the melodies I sang, played an important part of his life , that maybe I was making a contribution to a president in some way," said Stevie Wonder, after learning that Barack Obama named 5 of his albums as the 5 most important albums ever.
John Mellencamp sang ‘Pink Houses’. Beyonce sang ‘America The Beautiful’. Bruce Springsteen and Pete Seeger performed ‘This Land Is Your Land’.
Bono was the most eloquent speaker. U2 performed the classic ‘Pride (In The Name of Love’ and Bono added that the song was an "Irish dream, European dream, African dream, Israeli dream also a Palestinian dream."
U2 then played ‘City Of Blinding Lights’. "What a thrill for four Irish boys from the north side of Dublin to honor you, sir, for choosing this song to be part of the soundtrack" of the campaign,” he said.
Barack Obama will be sworn in as the new President of the United States of America on January 20.
