Philadelphia rapper Cassidy is in a critical condition in a New Jersey hospital after a catastrophic car accident.
The 24-year-old, whose real name is Barry Reese, was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle which crashed into another vehicle in Jersey City on October 5. He is reported to have been the only person involved in the accident to receive serious injuries. He remains under heavy sedation, with multiple fractures to his face. His lawyer, Simon Rosen, described the injuries as "scary looking". He went on to say, "he's a fighter. He'll come through this."
Cassidy was recently released from prison after being convicted in January for involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault. A judge found that Cassidy was grossly negligent for supplying the guns that that killed Desmond Hawkins, who was involved in an argument with the rapper's friends.
The crash occurred as Cassidy was heading to a New York studio to work on his new album. He has released two rap albums, 'Split Personality' in 2004 and 'I'm A Hustla' in 2005.
Assuming he pulls through, Cassidy's street-cred will undoubtedly be enhanced by the scar he received in the accident, which stretches from his ear to the corner of his mouth.
