Gerry Rafferty, who gave the world that massive hit ‘Baker Street’ in 1978, is listed as critical with liver failure after collapsing five days ago.
The 63-year old Scottish singer was placed on a life-support machine but it has been reported he has since been taken off the machine. His close family is nearby.
Rafferty was reported as missing in February, 2009 but was living in Italy. He issued a statement through his solicitors after not being seen for 6 months. It said he was in Tuscany, extremely well, and writing new songs.
Rafferty’s first band was The Humblebums who had absolutely zero success but their claim to fame is that the band also featured Billy Connolly.
Rafferty had a solo hit in 1972 with ‘Can I Have My Money Back’ and then formed Steeler’s Wheel with his friend Joe Egan. Steeler’s Wheel had a global hit with ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’
In 1978, he released his solo album ‘City To City’ featuring ‘Baker Street’. The album sold 5.5 million in the USA.
