Willie Nelson has teamed with Austin`s Asleep At The Wheel for the album `Willie and the Wheel`, a concept album from producer Jerry Wexler.
Wexler, who died in August 2008, thought up the idea for the western-swing album and finally persuaded Willie and the Wheel into the studio to fulfil his dream. It ended up being the last project Wexler ever worked on.Jerry Wexler was the producer of legendary hits like ‘Respect’ with Aretha Franklin, ‘In The Midnight Hour’ by Wilson Pickett.
He produced Bob Dylan ‘Slow Train Coming’, Dire Straits ‘Communique’ and Ray Charles ‘What’d I Say’.
In the biopic Ray, actor Richard Schiff played him.
“I’m glad we got to do it for him,” Willie said, “and that he heard it before he passed on.”
‘Willie and the Wheel’ features a dozen classic songs from the swing era.
The album will be released in February and followed by a 10-date joint tour.
