There is nothing too complicated about the Even formula. In fact, it is the simplicity that makes them so damn appealing.
Even formed in 1994. Lead singer Ash Naylor was 17 then. Wally Kempton from The Meanies and Matthew Cotter rounded up the band and Even was born.It is a testament to the guys that the original line-up is still together, still recording and still playing live. How many 15-year-old bands can claim that level of stability?
Even influences are blatantly obvious. You hear The Church who in turn were influenced by The Byrds. You hear Tom Petty who was also a big Byrds fan. Oz rock influences include The Stems, more Byrds fans as well as the early Oz rock punk of The Saints and the surf-punk of Hoodoo Gurus.
When Even wrap those influences around their own talents, you get one hell of a live rock act.
Even have six songs up on their MySpace to listen to. ‘Rainbows’ has been hit heaviest.
Every song clocks in less than 4 minutes. Every song has a hook. Every song has a guitar.
They don’t make bands like Even any more.
