Jackie Bristow is an example of how by putting in the work, you end up with the results.
New Zealand born Bristow has hopped from her native New Zealand to a stint in Australia before heading to the US where she first made Los Angeles her home and is now stationed in Austin, the “live music capital of the world”.Jackie grew up listening to pop. Crowded House, Cyndi Lauper, Culture Club and U2 were part of her musical diet as a kid.
What that gave her was an appreciation of the structure of a song. Pop is one of the hardest genres to master. You have to make you point with a catchy, sing along tune in less than 3 minutes.
Taking that sensibility and then wrapping it into her adult influences from people like Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and the Eagles gave Jackie the template for her sound. That is what she has taken into the studio.
Listen to Jackie Bristow at her MySpace site and you will hear an accomplished singer songwriter who feels what she plays. The sound of ‘Who’s To Judge’ could be traced back to Rickie Lee Jones for influence. ‘The World Is Turning’ sounds like she was a student of Neil Finn. ‘Crazy Love’ is the romantic ballad; ‘Tempted’ has a country tinge while ‘Just Wanna Feel Love’ lays right back.
Jackie releases her music via Sydney indie Craving Records.
