The Undercover Myspace Indie Act of the Day has today come across Chris English, a singer songwriter from Charlotte, North Carolina.
While a name you might be unfamiliar with, English’s credits are long. He has opened for Hall & Oates, the Doobie Brothers, Psychedelic Furs and INXS.Chris is also a successful jingle writer with shorter tunes for NASCAR and MSNBC to his name.
In December, he released his debut album ‘Dreamtown’ on SideBMusic, an indie label out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The music on ‘Dreamtown’ is going to appeal to fans of 60s and 70s sounds. You will hear elements of Beatles and Peter Gabriel as you cruise through the songs, especially on ‘I Can See Everything’, one of the songs featured on his Myspace site.
‘Sunshine Routine’ again has a familiar Brian Wilson keyboard and inflection sound. It also works as a hybrid better the Wilson and McCartney song structure. ‘Summer Revisited’ is likewise Wilsonesque.
While only relevant to Australians, ‘Dreamtown’ has a Billy Thorpe ‘Its Almost Summer’ feel to it.
The sound of Chris English is best described as Adult Contemporary Rock.
