Don`t hold your breath for a Smiths reunion. It ain`t gonna happen.
The Smiths' ex-drummer, Mike Joyce says that the re-union is 'Very Doubtful' but personally he 'wouldn’t mind’ putting the band back together for 'a couple of massive charity gigs'.Mike Joyce this week spoke to XFM's Steve Harris regarding The Smiths’ latest compilation 'The Sound Of The Smiths’ and the rumours that the Manchester legends are about to reform.
'It’s very, very doubtful that anything like that would happen. If it would happen, it would be quite interesting, but I doubt it very much', said the drummer.
'Morrissey famously said he’d rather eat his own testicles than get the band back together and that’s something coming from a vegetarian.
'There’d have to be a really good reason. I wouldn’t mind doing something for charity,. There’s been a lot of money offered around, but I wouldn’t mind doing a couple of massive charity gigs'.
Joyce also spoke fondly of former band-mate Morrissey who he successfully sued for Smiths’ royalties in 1996. 'Morrissey’s voice and his words have always been fantastic', said the drummer. On the singer’s involvement with the 'Best Of’, he also said,
'Morrissey had always done the artwork himself and it’s absolutely brilliant on this. I’m so glad he decided to be involved in it and chose some fantastic photographs'.
