80's boyband BoyTown is back together but instead of focusing on their old love songs, they are now writing and performing for middle aged women.
Early BoyTown featured songs about tears, angels and eternity. BoyTown '06 now targets the current lifestyle of their original fans with songs about divorce, shopping and picking up kids after school. The original line-up is giving it one more go. Benny G, Tommy Boy, Bobby Mac, Carl and Corey have recorded an entire album of new songs for women of their own age.
Songs on the comeback album include "Tough Titties", "Picking The Kids Up From School", "Love Handles", "Parent Teacher Night", "Cellulite Lady", 'Special Time (Of The Month", and 'Dishpan Hands".
If you think this sounds like a joke, you are right. 'BoyTown' is the new movie from comedian Mick Malloy. The movie also stars Glenn Robbins, Bob Franklin, Wayne Hope and Gary Eck.
The music was composed by Gareth Skinner, who also worked on 'Crackerjack' with Molloy. He says the hardest part of composing the music was the painful research he had to go through. "It was a real chore to strap myself in and watch live DVD after live DVD", he says. But as for writing deliberately poppy, up-tempo, boyband music - that was the easy part. "It was only hard to find appropriate voices - as a musician I don't really associate with people who work in boybands!"
The soundtrack was released on September 30. The movie will open in cinemas on October 19.
