This century is only in it's 13th year however ARIA have have announced that Adele has claimed the the mantle for the longest-running No.1 album this century, with thirty weeks at the top for the worldwide hit ’21’.
Incredibly, Dire Straits are still the ones to beat from last century with their album " Brothers in Arms" which remained at number 1 for 34 non consecutive weeks in the mid 80's. Adele may well hang in there for another 4 weeks and one day to beat the Dire Straits record. Will ARIA then declare Adele as a history maker for the number of weeks at number one over a period of two centuries? Providing no other act reaches over 34 weeks at number 1 on the Australian album charts between now and the year 2100, yes they will be able to make this claim.
