Music executive Shakir Stewart, who replaced Jay-Z as head of Def Jam Records, has committed suicide.
Reports say Shakir died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.Stewart had held the title of Executive Vice-President of Def Jam since June, following the departure of Jay-Z. Jay-Z resigned from the top position in December 2007 after selling himself into Live Nation.
Prior to taking up the executive position, Stewart was at LeFace Records. His big discovery was Ciara. He was also involved in the solo career of Beyonce.
Stewart was last heard from at around 2pm Saturday. No further details are known at this time.
