Patti Labelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash are once again Labelle.
The 70’s soul sensations have been working on a new album this past year, their first since 1976, and the result is the ‘Back To Now’.‘Back To Now’ features an appearance from Wyclef Jean on ‘Roll Out’, the album’s lead track.
Lenny Kravitz was involved with the production. Ironically, he has managed to give the new Labelle a 70s sound on tracks like ‘Superlover’ and ‘System’. Labelle also recruited Philadelphia sound legends Gamble and Huff to help create the sound.
Labelle are best known for the R ‘n’ B classic ‘Lady Marmalade’. The song was redone for the Moulin Rouge movie by Christina Aguilera, Lil Kim, Mya and Pink.
There have been a number of Labelle reunions over the years but never with a new album. The last Labelle album was ‘Chameleon’ in 1976. Patti Labelle revealed in her book that work had commenced on a follow-up to be called ‘Shaman’ but it never came out.
Labelle will be back on stage in New York at the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem on December 19.
The Back To Now album will be released in Australia on November 24.
