The hugely successful Australian Music Prize is returning for a 2nd year, with a few of the kinks ironed out of last year's ceremony.
This year there will be around 100 judges (almost 40 more than last year) from the media and retail sections of the music industry, including Undercover's own Tim Cashmere, as well as a number of artists. The panel was "selected for their known ability to expertly review music".
Due to time restraints organisers came across in last year's event, this year entries will only be accepted between October 2nd and December 1st.
Judges this year will be judging each album based on a number of different criteria, including production, songwriting and performance, whereas last year albums were judged as a whole.
As with last year, there will be a $25,000 cash prize awarded to the album judged "the best" of 2006.
The prize is open to anyone and is truly judged on musical merit, rather than album sales. Every judge is sent a copy of the album they are reviewing and must listen to it more than once. For albums in the final 8, judges must listen to them again and rate each album from friggen awesome to ugh.
