80s electro-genius Gary Numan has remixed a new song for Australia’s Mandy Kane.
The song ’25 Seconds’ is “based around the concept of someone experiencing the last 25 seconds of their life, inviting any last words of insight as to its meaning, and realising that the afterlife could be just as brutal and solitary as the daily grind,” Mandy tells Undercover News.Gary Numan was so excited to be involved with the project that now he wants to take Mandy on tour when he comes to Australia in 2009. “Me and Ade Fenton did a remix of it,” Gary tells Undercover. “It came up really good actually. In fact, I have suggested that Mandy Kane tour with us when we go there. Now that we have done that remix there is a connection between the two of us and it makes sense for us to go out and do that together. If it is possible and Mandy Kane wants to do it then I am up for it”.
Doing work like this for Gary is rare. “I do that sort of thing from time to time but I don’t do a lot of it,” he says. “I do it when a particularly good track comes along. These collaboration things can be a lot of good fun and they have the potential to introduce you to a new audience. I worked with Fear Factory some time ago. They did a cover of mine and wanted me to be in the video for it. That worked”.
Numan will head to Australia for the first time in nearly 30 years in March 2009, but doesn’t want people to think he will be doing a “golden oldies show”. “I wouldn’t want people to come along to the gig thinking they are going to get a nostalgia set,” he says. “That is not what I am doing at all. I think there is an opportunity to let people know I’ve got old but I’m still alive. I’m just going to reintroduce myself to people as what I am. I am not introducing people to what I used to be”.
