The much talked about Green Day/U2 collaboration took place in New Orleans yesterday (September 25).
The two bands joined forced to perform a cover of The Skids 'The Saints Are Coming' for The Edge's music charity Music Rising.Music Rising raises money to buy instruments for down on their luck musicians.
The Edge decided to use the charity to help musicians in the New Orleans area who were hit hard by Hurricane Katrina in the region a year ago.
"Jazz, R&B, Rock & Roll, everything started in this little area" he told ABC News. "So not only for today but for the future and in reference to the history and the past I think every musician who earns money doing what they do owes a little bit of a debt to New Orleans".
Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong is equally passionate about the region's heritage. "For an area like this, like New Orleans, it is the blood that flows through the city. To see The Edge and Music Rising putting this thing together, it is just a great thing" he said.
Green Day opened the show at the Louisiana Superdome with their song 'Wake Me Up When September Comes'. U2 then joined then for 'The Saints Are Coming' and then U2 played their hit 'Beautiful Day'.
Both bands have also recorded a studio version of The Skids song to raise more money for Music Rising.
