What a shame the Bond people sold out to Coca-Cola before they released the theme for the new Bond movie ‘Quantum of Solace’.
The soundtrack to the TV commercial for Coke has impacted so heavily that the song sounds like an ad, not a soundtrack now.Alicia Keys is not heard in the Coca-Cola ad. Coke uses an instrumental version including the start of the song.
The Alicia Keys version debuted on UK radio this week and very quickly became one of the most shared files in the Internet.
The feedback has been under-whelming.
James Bond themes are expected to hit a certain benchmark based on the song, the artist and the placement.
‘Another Way To Die’ certainly sounds Bond, but creator Jack White has tried so hard to make it sound like a Bond theme that it sounds nothing like a Jack White song. The over-produced song also smothers the Keys vocal.
‘Another Way To Die’ will not go down as an all-time great Bond theme, but then again there really hasn’t been a great Bond theme since ‘Live and Let Die’.
Madonna had the last half-decent effort with ‘Die Another Day’.
Last time, Chris Cornell supplied what sounded like a cast-off from one of his albums for the theme. White and Keys have at least achieved a better quality track than Cornell. However, it’s a way off the old McCartney ‘Live and Let Die’ theme.
