Boz Burrell

R.I.P. Bad Company's Boz Burrell

Raymond 'Boz' Burrell, the original bass player for Bad Company, has died at his home in Spain at the age of 60.

Prior to founding the all-star Bad Company with Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke of Free and Mick Ralphs of Mott The Hoople, Burrell was the frontman for art-rock act King Crimson.

Burrell started out in 1963 in the band the Tea Time Four with Ian McLagen, later of Small Faces and The Faces.

In 1968, he covered Bob Dylan's 'Down In The Flood' as a solo artist for EMI. The backing band included Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice and Jon Lord, who all later went on to form Deep Purple.

In 1971, Burrell joined King Crimson but the line-up only lasted for a year. It was then that he went on to form Bad Company. Bad Company was his most successful band. They sold millions of albums all over the world and had hits with 'Can't Get Enough', 'Feel Like Making Love' and 'Good Lovin' Gone Bad'.

After leaving the band in 1979, he rejoined a decade later for one tour. He also participated in another tour in 1999, which featured the original line-up including Rogers.

A statement released by Bad Company's record label Swan Song reads "It is with deep regret and profound sorrow that we announce the death of our dear friend and colleague Raymond "Boz" Burrell, one of the original members and bass player in Bad Company. Boz died on September 21, 2006 at his residence in Spain. We express our gratitude to Boz for his important contribution to Swan Song and to the music of his generation. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife and family".
