Legendary drummer Buddy Miles has died in his hometown of Austin, aged 60.
Miles was a member of Band of Gypsys, the classic band featuring Jimi Hendrix.Band of Gypsys had a short life. Hendrix formed the band in 1969 and was dead by 1970.
Band of Gypsys also featuring Billy Cox. They released a live album in 1970.
Miles came from a musical family. His father played jazz with Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Charlie Parker and Dexter Gordon.
After his time with Hendrix, Miles and Cox formed the Buddy Miles Express. Not long after, he released another live album with Carlos Santana.
Miles got back together with Buddy Cox in 2004 to re-record some of the songs from the Band of Gypsys album. The album 'Band of Gypsys Return' was released in 2006. It was his last recording.
The cause of Miles death is unknown at this stage.
