Gary Glitter has signed the sex offenders register in the UK and will now have to report to authorities if he wants to travel outside Britain.
As a registered sex offender, Glitter’s real name, Paul Francis Gadd, will be listed on the Police National Computer.He must now notify police of any intention to move house, changing his name or traveling internationally.
Failure to comply may lead to 5 years in prison.
Glitter spent three years in a Vietnamese prison after being found guilty of having sex with two girls, aged 11 and 12.
He arrived at Heathrow airport yesterday after a four-day jaunt around Asia. On the stopover from Vietnam at Bangkok airport, Glitter faked a heart attack and spent 20 hours in transit after customers refused him entry.
He then flew to Hong Kong and was also refused entry.
At 7am Friday morning (UK time), the singer finally touched down at Heathrow airport.
Although he is now registered as a sex offender, under UK law he will have 21 days to appeal.
Gary Glitter was one of the biggest British pop stars of the 70s.
His hits included ‘Rock and Roll (parts 1 and 2)’, ‘I Didn’t Know I Loved You (Till I Saw Your Rock and Roll)’, ‘Do You Wanna Touch Me’, ‘Hello Hello I’m Back Again’, ‘I’m The Leader of the Gang’, ‘I Love You Love Me Love’, ‘Remember Me This Way’ and ‘Always Yours’.
His songs have been covered by The Human league, Joan Jett, Shakin Stevens and The Timelords.
Oasis even paid homage to Glitter with a cheeky nod to ‘Hello Hello I’m Back Again’ in their song ‘Hello’.
