Matchbox Twenty’s Paul Doucette will release his debut solo album under the name The Break and Repair Method.
Doucette has tapped influenced from Harry Nilsson through to Moon Unit Zappa to develop this album but described the process of making music as like “milking a bee”."When I first came up with the title, it was from a place of pure frustration. It seemed a futile thing to do - you make a record - and really - what's the point' It's like milking a bee," he said in a statement.
The album came from the frustrations of being in a band like Matchbox Twenty and not having a creative outlet within the band . "When I first made the record, I had been in a band for so long, and I was always a drummer. I never really contributed much melodically, so it was important to me to do as much of that as I could," he says.
For the sessions, Doucette recruited his friends. His wife Moon Unit Zappa is featured as is Veruca Salt founder Nina Gordon.
Matt Beck from the Matchbox touring band is there and other collaborators include David Levita (Alanis Morrisette), Roger Manning (Jellyfish, Beck) and Rusty Anderson (Paul McCartney).
The Break and Repair Method album will be released independently through Bluhammock Music on September 16th.
