The Meanies have lost their second member a year. While still getting over the death of Dennis DePianto earlier this year comes the news that Tasman Blizzard lost his life on Friday in a car accident.
Blizzard`s blue Ford station wagon went out of control as he was driving along the Bellarine Peninsula in wet conditions around 3pm Friday, August 1.The car spun into a dam alongside the road and was almost completely submerged.
Blizzard was the only person in the car.
The guitarist was a popular figure in the Geelong surfing community. From 2006-2007, he served as President of the Port Lonsdale Boardriders Club.
Rescue attempts got underway six minutes after the first call to emergency. However, Blizzard was dead, strapped to the drivers seat when he was pulled from the murky waters.
The Meanies were a popular band in the Melbourne pink scene of the early 90s; Blizzard was a founding member. Pearl Jam`s Eddie Vedder is a huge fan of the band and requested they reform to support Pearl Jam on their last Australian tour.
A show scheduled for next week at Geelong`s National Hotel will go ahead as a tribute to Tas.
