One of Billy Preston`s last studio session was for California band Dirty Heads. On September 23, Dirty Heads will release `Any Port In A Storm` featuring Preston`s last ever recording.
“That was like a pipe dream for us,” says the band`s vocalist Jared Watson about the participation of Preston. “We couldn`t believe it when we found out he had heard our music and wanted to play on it. We flew out to Arizona, where we got to meet him and watch him record his tracks. It was surreal.”Billy Preston died in June 2006. The Texan born keyboard player was the only person ever to receive a joint credit on a Beatles record. `Get Back` was released as The Beatles with Billy Preston.
Preston also recorded for The Beatles Apple Records label and released his best known song `That`s The Way God Planned It` on Apple.
Billy died of a kidney disease on June 6, 2006 but not long before his death recorded for the Dirty Heads album.
`Any Port In A Storm` will also feature an appearance from Josh Freese.
The album was produced by Sugar Ray drummer Stan Frazier and features the song Matthew McConaughey personally selected for his next movie `Surfer Dude`.
