Simple Minds original line-up has reformed.
Brian McGee, Derek Forbes, Mick MacNeil, Charlie Burchill and Jim Kerr are going back to the studio to record another album. It has been 27 years since this line-up has played together.
The line-up was together for the first album 'Life In A Day', released in 1977. The first member to leave was Brian McGee. His last album was 1981's international breakthrough 'Sons and Fascination' which featured the hit 'Loves Song'.
Forbes last album with Simple Minds was 1984's 'Sparkle In The Rain'. It featured the hit 'Waterfront'. MacNeil left the band in 1989, citing health reasons.
In a statement at the Simple Minds website, Kerr says 'Of course I am excited with the prospect of working with the original line - up once more. I had always believed that the day would come when we would get the opportunity to do so. The last time we worked together was on our Sons and Fascination/Sister Feelings Call album, featuring songs like The American, Themes for Great Cities, Love Song etc, and it is still considered by many as among our best ever work. We have a lot to live up to, but we intend to have some fun attempting to do just that.'
The plan is to release two new tracks later this year.
