Dennis Dowlut, of Kaylan/Disco Montego fame, will perform his first show since the death of his brother Darren at the PLW Live showcase in Melbourne last week.
The Dowlut's were pioneers of Australian R&B. We first heard of the Dowlut's as Kaylan and the album 'No Commandments'.Following the success of Kaylan, the Dowlut's reinvented themselves as Disco Montego for the 'We Got Love' album. It was a different flavor of R&B to Kaylan.
Disco Montego had three Top 40 hits including 'Beautiful' with Katie Underwood.
Darren and Dennis then formed Bomb Records to develop other acts and guided Jeremy Gregory in the early stages of his career.
As their international profile increased, the Dowlut's picked up work remixing Mariah Carey 'Boy I Need You' and Elton John with Blue 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word'.
Shortly after, Darren was diagnosed with cancer. He died in 2005, aged 26.
Dennis has kept a low profile over the last few years but will be back to perform at the PLW Showcase on Wednesday night at the Blue Diamond room in Queen Street.
The PLW Showcase is a stage for new artists to receive live experience.
The showcase next week will also include the return of Sam Clark, Adam Martin, Trinity, Magenta Harley and Art of Wor.
Doors open at 8pm.
The show starts at 8.30pm.
Tickets are $8.
The Blue Diamond is on level 15, 123 Queen St, Melbourne.
