Katy Perry is the first major act to be announced to perform at the Logies this year.
The Logies, Australia’s television awards, will take place at Melbourne’s Crown Casino on May 1.
Perry will perform her hit song ‘Firework’ on the show.
The Logies will be hosted by comedian Shane Bourne. Andre Rieu and Justin Bieber are also expected to attend.
Last year, the lacklustre broadcast was gazumped by tweets before the show had gone to air. It is filmed two hours before broadcast. The Age columnist Catherine Deveny was sacked for his off-colour tweet suggesting 11-year old Bindi Irwin should get laid. Comedian Wil Anderson was also far more entertaining than the program with his commentary bagging the awards in real-time at his twitter page.
The Logies have the answer this year – a strongly worded memo has been sent to all attendees banning tweets. That’ll work!
