Post-Blink 182 melodic rock project Angels & Airwaves have announced Australian tour dates.
As a band, ultra-successful pop punk pranksters Blink-182 displayed far more maturity on their 'Untitled' album of 2003, but by mid-2005 the band announced that they officially broke up. Bassist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker have recently formed +44, but before that guitarist Tom DeLonge formed Angels & Airwaves. His ambitious new band took Blink's recent sojourn into sincere, powerful melodic rock to a new level. He included Box Car Racer's guitarist Dave Kennedy, ex-Distillers bassist Ryan Sinn and Offspring drummer Atom Willard.
Their mid-2006 debut 'We Don't Need To Whisper' was a cinematic concept album and a surprise hit. Even with DeLonge talking it up to ludicrous levels, the album debuted in the US at number four, and in Australia at number 8.
Always a big market for Blink-182, Australia will now host shows by Angels & Airwaves. They play Brisbane's Tivoli on October 19, Sydney's Big top at Luna Park on October 20 and Melbourne's Festival Hall on October 22. Tickets go on sale Friday September 8.
