Danny Federici, the man who played keyboards alongside Bruce Springsteen for 40 years, has died of cancer at age 58.
Federici was diagnosed with melanoma three years ago.His final concert with the E Street Band was only last month in Indianapolis. Danny, who had retired from the band to battle his cancer, was a special guest at the show at Conseco Fieldhouse.
In a statement at his official website, Bruce Springsteen has posted "Danny and I worked together for 40 years. He was the most wonderfully fluid keyboard player and a pure natural musician. I loved him very much. We grew up together."
Federici was the one who invited Springsteen into the band. This was before they were called The E Street Band. At the time, the band was called Child.
Danny died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Springsteen has postponed his show tonight in Ft. Lauderdale and Saturday in Orlando out of respect to Danny.
