The Guys and Dolls stage production, direct from London's West End, has opened with its all-star Australian cast in Melbourne.
The Melbourne production features Garry McDonald in the role of Nathan Detroit, made famous by Frank Sinatra in the 50s movie of the same name.The original stage show opened on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre on November 24, 1950.
For the Aussie version, Logie winner Lisa McCune is Sarah Brown, Marina Prior plays Miss Adelaide, Kenny star Shane Jacobsen is Nicely Nicely, Kath & Kim's Magda Szubanski plays Big Jule but the starring role must go to former Sea Patrol star Ian Stenlake, who owns the audience with his part as Sky Masterton.
Guys and Dolls is set in New York in the 40s.
It features the Sinatra classic 'Luck Be A Lady' as well as the show standard
'Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat'.
Melbourne's opening night featured a few famous faces in the audience. Spotted were Geoffrey Rush, Paul Cronin, Ken James and the guy who plays Derryn Hinch in Underbelly.
Tickets are now on sale for Guys and Dolls through until June.
