Now in its third year, the Australian Music Prize looks to be living true to its promise of rewarding quality.
Berlin-based Devestations and The Mess Hall are both second time nominees (although neither have actually won it), and it's no surprise to see Midnight Juggernauts in there. The short list this year features ten artists (last year was just nine and in it's inaugural year, eight), which prize director Scott Murphy says is a "reflection of the quantity of high quality releases in 2007."
The complete short list is:
New Buffalo - Somewhere Anywhere
Perry Keyes - Last Ghost Train Home
Midnight Juggernauts - Dystopia
Lisa Miller - Morning In The Bowl Of Night
Devestations - Yes, U
Architecture in Helsinki - Places Like This
Dardenelles - Mirror Mirror
The Mess Hall - Devil's Elbow
Urthboy - The Signal
bluejuice - Problems
The major prize ($25,000!) will be drawn at a ceremony in Sydney on March 13.
