Staunch Democrat, singer songwriter John Mellencamp, has told Republican front-runner John McCain to stop using his songs in his campaign.
McCain has been using the Mellencamp songs 'Pink Houses' and 'Our Country' as anthems on his campaign trail and it has pissed the singer off no-end.Mellencamp's political of choice was John Edwards who recently departed the leadership race. Edwards used 'Our Country' as well as 'Small Town' as his themes.
So why is McCain using the songs? The sentiment of 'Our Country' hardly stands as a Republican message.
The lyrics read "And poverty could be just another ugly thing / and bigotry would be seen only as obscene / and the ones who run this land / help the poor and common man / this is our country".
Same with 'Pink Houses' which goes:
"There's a black man with a black cat / Living in a black neighbourhood / He's got an interstate running through his front yard / You know, he think, that he's got it so good."
McCain is the heir-apparent to Republican leadership after George W. Bush is cast aside later this year.
