The Australian recording industry continued to feel that post-Christmas chill with the country's Top 100 album sales totalling only 135,562 units, including 5881 downloads. That was less than what the Top 5 sold in the week before Christmas.
To put that into perspective, in the week leading up to Christmas, 137,688 units sold in the Top 5 and 746,561 albums sold across Australia in the Top 100.Timbaland topped the bad week with only 5,084 units of 'Shock Value' moving out of stores or over internet connections.
Foo Fighters 'Echos, Silence, Patience & Grace' was top 10 on just 2,872 units. Before Christmas, that figure would have placed it at No. 70.
2007 ended on a sour note for the industry with the pre-Christmas number one selling 35,561 units compared to 101,206 units for the same week in the previous year.
Guy Sebastian's 2003 debut 'Just As I Am' sold 163,000 units in its first week. That was more than this week's entire Top 100 combined. Last week, his 'The Memphis Album' sold 1,782 units bringing its total to 104,052, still an impressive figure still in today's climate.
The number one single 'Bleeding Love' by Leona Lewis still pulled a good figure on 11,030 units, 8,399 of which were downloads.
Justin Timberlake 'FutureSex/LoveShow' was the number one DVD, moving 2,267 units.
