Rolling Stones Leave EMI For Universal

The Rolling Stones are the latest band to depart EMI Records. The band announced today that the next album, the soundtrack to the Martin Scorsese film 'Shine A Light', will be released by Universal.

Legendary film director Scorsese captured the band live and intimate over two nights at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

While Lucian Grainge, CEO of Universal welcomed the band to the label, EMI put out a conflicting statement saying that the band was still with them. "The Rolling Stones have not signed to Universal and they've not left EMI," Thomson Financial reports EMI as stating but Grainge said "We are really proud to be working with The Rolling Stones and so is everybody in Universal Music globally."

It's been a tough week for EMI. Head Guy Hands announced a cutback of up to 2000 staff worldwide over the next 6 months.

EMI has lost Paul McCartney and Radiohead in the last year. Robbie Williams and Coldplay have made public statements that they could be next to go.

Universal will release the Rolling Stones 'Shine A Light' soundtrack in March.
