Music legend Stephen Stills, of Crosby, Stills & Nash fame, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Stills friend and fellow musician Graham Nash announced the news on Larry King's CNN talk-show.Nash phoned into the show to pay tribute to another friend, singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg who died of the disease earlier this week.
Nash told King in a matter of fact manner "Unlike Danny, who left it too long to be seriously checked, Stephen found his at an early stage."
It is unknown at this stage if Nash's announcement about Still was a slip of the tongue.
Stills had not announced that he had the disease at that point. King had to ask a number of times if by Stephen he was talking about Stephen Stills and Nash confirmed that was who he meant.
He said that Stills will be undergoing treatment on January 3rd. The date is significant as it is Stills 63rd birthday.
Rolling Stone ranks Stills at the 28th guitarist of all-time in their Top 100 Greatest Guitarists of All-Time list.
Stills was a founding member of Buffalo Springfield before forming Crosby, Stills & Nash, then Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young with David Crosby, Graham Nash and Neil Young.
However, life could have been different for the younger Stills. In the late 60s, he auditioned for a role in The Monkees but was unsuccessful. As luck would have it, Still took along his flat-mate at the time to the audition, who happened to also audition just because he was there on the day. The flat-mate was Peter Tolk. He got the job.
Crosby, Stills & Nash only last week returned to the USA after conducting their third Australian tour.
