Texan rapper Pimp C (aka Chad Butler) has been found dead in a hotel room on the Sunset Strip in LA.
The body of the 33 year old performer, who appeared on songs by Outkast and Jay-Z, was found by hotel staff in his bed at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood.Police were immediately called.
Pimp C was a member of UGK (Underground Kingz). UGK performed with Jay-Z on his 2000 track 'Big Pimpin' and with Outkast on 'International Player's Anthem (I Choose You).
Just last Saturday, Pimp C appeared with Too Short at the House of Blues, which is next door to the Mondrian.
UGK had just released 'Underground Kingz', their first album in 5 years. It featured the track with Outkast.
UGK was formed in 1987 by friends Chad 'Pimp C' Butler and Bernard "Bun B' Freeman. The first album was 'Southern Way' in 1992.
The second album 'Super Tight' came out 2 years later and peaked at #95 on the Billboard chart. Album three 'Ridin' Dirty' got as high at #15.
The UGK career was put on hold in 2002 when Pimp C was incarcerated on an aggravated gun assault charge. He was released from prison on December 30, 2005 and on parole until 2009.
On August 7 this year, the 7th UGK's album 'Underground Kingz' was released.
