Bobby Farrell , erstwhile singer for ‘70s disco giants Boney M, has been found dead in a Russian hotel.
The Daily Mail reports that the singer was performing in St Petersburg and complained of breathing problems both before and after that show.
A representative of St Petersburg’s investigative committee stated that the cause of death is as yet unknown.
Roberto Farrell was born in Aruba, but soon moved to Norway after becoming a sailor. He was DJing in the Netherlands when he was discovered for Boney M.
Farrell was the sole male member of the group, but producer Frank Farian claimed that he never sang on their records, only singing during some live performances.
Through the 2000s he released re-recordings of Boney M’s hits featuring his own vocals.
Farrell was 61.
