The 5th anniversary of the death of The Clash guitarist Joe Strummer will be marked with a tribute gig in London on December 22.
'London Calling: Remembering Joe Strummer' will take place in Brixton.The line-up will include Primal Scream's Mani, Bonehead from Oasis, Andy Rourke from The Smiths, Jamie T, Jim Bob from Carter The USM, The Mentalists and The Misfits are all on board. Musicians from The Happy Mondays, Paul Weller's band and The Members are also set to perform.
Joe Strummer died of an undiagnosed heart condition in 2002. . He was the lead singer and co-founder of The Clash.
Strummer was born John Graham Mellor in Ankara, Turkey on August 21, 1952. His father was a British diplomat based in Turkey and over his childhood years, Strummer lived in Mexico City, Cairo and Bonn.
The Clash formed in 1976 and broke up 10 years later. They were best known for the punk anthems 'London Calling' and 'White Riot' but crossed over to the mainstream charts with the hits 'Rock The Casbah' and 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go'.
Recommended viewing for the story of Joe Strummer is the 2007 documentary 'Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten'. The Julien Temple directed documentary debuted at the Sundance Film Festival this year and is currently screening on Qantas international flights.
